I can't remember what I felt or thought the first time I heard it, but I can tell you that I dig it now, though I may respect it more than love it. It's a hugely brave & powerful record, & tracks like 'Mother' & 'God' rank among the most searingly honest & painfully beautiful songs ever recorded. I also love the stark instrumentation & the overall spectral quality of the production (was Phil Spector REALLY there?). On the other hand it's a brutal record & I find I don't put it on too often - mebbe it's an aversion to such obvious pain. And 'Well Well Well' never ceases to irritate me.

Just got Yoko's Plastic Ono Band album & grooving on that recently. Talk about brave.

Hi group,
What was your first reaction when hearing John's "Plastic Ono Band" album?
I first heard it in 1980, not long after John was killed. I loved the record, but the pain within it was too close especially since hearing it soon after he died. So many years later, I can hear more of the raw power in it, the cleansing, as well as the wonderful and stark compositions.
What do you think of the record?
