  Um, your title is ambiguous...if you mean that the response to 9/11 didn't exactly fit with the spirit of Lennon's song, then I agree...

    I mean the prime conclusion of the 9/11 Commission reported the cause to be "...a failure of the imagination." See C Rice's testimony. She used the I-word symbolically; eg, who could have imagined...? .
    
    It's an abstract comparison. The same people who bashed Lennon for the song - are primarily responsible for the government's failure to prevent 9/11 - the Right-Wing. See also a "WKRP In Cincinnati" episode featuring a Jerry Falwell-type ripping the lyrics.
